The BABORÁK ENSEMBLE was founded in 2003 by a highly acclaimed Solo Horn Player and Conductor Radek Baborák. Its members are bound together by a shared enjoyment of performing music by composers of four stylistically different eras, as well as an enthusiasm for discovering unknown works and the search for unusual, non-traditional interpretations of compositions either dedicated to or arranged for the ensemble.
The core of the Ensemble is formed by the French Horn and the String Quartet with Double bass. This ensemble has been flexible from the very first performances and varies depending on the stylistic and repertoire demands of individual compositions.
The ensemble is a frequent guest at many international festivals such as the Mozart Week Salzburg, Prague Spring Festival, Smetana Litomyšl, Festival of Middle Europa, Janáček Festival, Pierre Boulez Hall Berlin, Viva Musica Bratislava. The ensemble is a regular guest in Japan’s and performs in prestigious venues in Sapporo, Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Mito. As a residential group, the ensemble performs series concerts at St. Agnes Church in Prague.
Through the musical leadership of Radek Baborák the Ensemble has made a great number of exciting and distinguished recordings over the years for the Japanese company Exton. For the record label Suprafon the ensemble recorded compositions by Bohuslav Martinů, Charles Koechlin, Carl Nielsen and the complete set of Mozart’s Horn Concertos. Their Mozart album Sinfonia Concertante: Music for French Horn (2018) won the Classic Prague Awards in 2018. Further recordings are three prestigious albums of the work of Astor Piazzolla: Cuatrocientas Estaciones de Ástor Piazzolla (2021), Piazzolla (2019) and Orquestrina (2014). The year 2021 saw Radek Baborak rearrange and reimagining the music of Gustav Mahler in their album Mahler: Des Knaben Wunderhorn (2021) which was featured by internationally renowned Czech singers Kateřina Kněžíková, Markéta Cukrová and Adam Plachetka.
